THE
LEGISLATURE OF EQUATORIA - FEB. 18, 2006, JUBA, SUDAN
Rev.
Cal. R. Bombay
Mr. Speaker of the House
Honourable members of the House,
Ladies and gentlemen.
What I have to say to you today is as firm and true
as God Himself, and comes from His Holy Word, the Bible.
You have entered a new era in Sudan’s history.
A Peace Agreement has been signed. The Government of Southern Sudan is
coming together. Progress is slowly being made toward a future with hopes
for every person, family, clan and tribe in Southern Sudan.
Every citizen of this wonderful area of the world
wants peace. They want prosperity, freedom of conscience, freedom of movement,
an opportunity to become personally established and to feed and educated
themselves. They want all the rights and privileges they deserve after
so many years of torture and agony.
Too many people have died to bring us to this place
and this time. Let us not waste their agony, and their years of patience
in suffering. Let us not waste the deaths of 2,200,000 men, women and
children, by taking selfish personal advantage of what
the future should hold for every citizen.
Every citizen of southern Sudan
has suffered and sacrificed for what the future now holds. Every citizen
of southern Sudan needs a piece of the hope and prosperity the future
holds.
But to see this accomplished, they desperately need
leaders who, under God, will give them that opportunity.
Without God, none of it will be
possible. It is God Who brought you this far. Without leaders who are
as desperate as the common man, woman and child in southern Sudan, life
can and will become just like so much of Africa has already become. Riddled
with corruption, graft, greed and self-serving decisions.
The fact that you are leaders is not merely a political,
military or random chance. It is an appointment by God. Being
leaders and decision makers on behalf of a nation is no easy matter. It
comes with great responsibility, and great challenge.
Romans 13:1: “Let every soul be subject
be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except
from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”
Sudan stands right now at the brink of the possibility
to introduce a new model for ALL of Africa by the example you as leaders
set. There exists two possibilities:
To become the first nation in Africa to live under
God’s order for civil society, and to prosper,
or . . .
. . . . . and I say this in all sobriety, because
there are enemies right among you
To degenerate into chaos, corruption and moral decay
which will destroy the future of Southern Sudan.
Let me read from the Bible, in Proverbs 11:3-6:
“The integrity of the upright will
guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will
destroy them. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But
righteousness delivers from death.
