Leadership In Sudan
Board of Directors - The Savannah Farmers Cooperative
It should be noted that all the members of the Board of Directors are such in their capacity as volunteer private Sudanese citizens (of the south.)
Chairman of the Board - Mr. Steven Wondu
Mr. Wondu was the southern Sudan’s Official Representative to Canada, The USA and the United Nations on behalf of the SPLM, then under the leadership of Dr. John Garang di Mabior. When the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between north and south was signed in January of 2005, Mr. Wondu became Ambassador for the whole of Sudan under the authority of President Beshir’s northern Government, but appointed by the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan GoSS). Since then he has been recalled from Tokyo and is now the Auditor General of the GoSS.
Deputy Chairman of the Board – Rev. Cal Bombay
Cal Bombay is President and CEO of Cal Bombay Ministries Inc. a registered national Charity in Canada, which is sole financial supporter of the farm developments on the Savannah Farmers Coopertive.
Secretary Treasurer of the Board
Sadly, Dr. Samson Kwaje who held this position went to be with his Lord on July 31, 2010. He was a great man within the GoSS as Minister of Information and when he died he was Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. In time, we will find another Sudanese qualified to take his place. We will miss him terribly!
Managing Director – The Hon. Mr. Zamba Duku.
As Managing Director of the Board, Zamba is also a full-time employee of Cal Bombay Ministries and paid directly from Canada. Mr. Duku was for many years attached to the SPLM and the SPLA as a strategist, and became a Brigadier General in the SPLM. When GoSS was formed in 2005, Zamba was appointed Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Central Equatoria State, which will doubtless be the economic engine State of southern Sudan. Zamba oversaw the formation of the State Constitution.
Member of the Board – The Hon. Dr. Manase Lomole Waya.
Manase is Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State which position also includes being Minister of Agriculture and Forestry for the State. Manase headed an indigenous Humanitarian Agency called Humanitarian Assistance for South Sudan (HASS) which built schools and a trades training institute even before the war ended. The hospital he is building was first support by 100 Huntley Street and is now sponsored by Cal Bombay Ministries.
Member of the Board – His Excellency – Commissioner Muki Batali.
Mr. Batali has been a member of the Legislative Assembly in Central Equatoria State. While he was in that position he was a key member of a group of landlords who leased, with government approval, about 100,000 acres to the Savannah Farmers Cooperative. He was then appointed and now elected as Commissioner again.
Member of the Board – Mr. Ben Yengi
Ben spent many years in exile in Australia where he was decorated for work among international refugees. He became a member of Adelaide University Staff. He runs a Non-Government Organization called KADI which is attempting to preserve rare wildlife species in southern Sudan. He also is involved in community development and farming in southern Sudan.
MANAGEMENT STAFF
Financial Administrator - Ms. Fiona Musiimenta Onyinda - Fiona is a graduate of Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. She holds her degree in Accounting and Business Management. He father was one of our farm managers until his untimely death by cancer.
General Manager – Mr. Anthony Duku – Anthony is a university graduate in Modern Agriculture. It is his duty to administer the day to day working of all our farm managers, planning field crops and keeping inventory of both supplies and crops. He supervises the general working of the fields from ploughing threw to harvest through the farm managers. He consults on a constant basis with the Managing Director on all matters of supplies and employees.
Bori (1) Farm Manager – Emmanuel - Emmanuel is a hard-working, get-you-hands-dirty type of manager unlike many people who are the “boss” of some business and rarely put their hand to the plow. He knows modern farming and is spoken of highly by our workers.
Bore (2) Farm Manager – Amos Kenyi – Again, a young man with energy and drive to get the work done. He was the manager of a smaller farm in Mogiri and because of his vision and work ethic, we have asked him to lead this second 2,000 acre farm. Volunteer farmers from Canada who have been to Sudan speak highly of him.
Morobo Farm – Rev. Stanley lo Nathan – Stanley, though a pastor miles away in Yei City, comes to Morobo four days a week to manage the farm. He is itching to expand his acreage, but get a good crop off each season thus far.
