E. Mission (Wondu writing)
All the information above is probably irrelevant with respect to the
mission of SFC.
The key thing is that I have a vision, sharpened perhaps by the general
experiences in the war era and my stint in the Department of
Agriculture in the 1980s. My dream is to undermine the dependence syndrom
that has been visited on our people during the conflict and turn them
to proud prosperous independent families. I want to demonstrate that
God has given us the gift of land, rain and health to create wealth.
Savannah Organic produce is doing well 'preaching' the message by deeds.
More and more farmers are emulating the example. But this positive response
means that more resources are required.
We need to respond positively by assisting the farmers directly so
that they do not become frustrated in being spectators at a
handful of players. This could even create hostility towards
the 'chosen few'. In the next phase of the SFC program, the
following:
- Procurement of hand tools and implements for wide distribution
- Supply
of seeds; grains, tubers, stems,
- Provision of extension
services (crop husbandry and pest management before and
after harvest
- Crop bulking (buying farmers' surplus) this
requires working capital.
- Transportation to markets. This
is where my closed ISUZU trucks become absolutely necessary.
